"Here at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, Virginia, we base our teachings on God’s revealed word, The King James Bible, where people come to place their trust in Christ to forgive and lead them, and that they grow in their relationship with Him.
The main purpose of Woodlawn Baptist Church is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. By His grace we evangelize the sinner and edify the saints."

After hearing a radio broadcast from Ellsworth Street Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA where W.E. Hardy was Pastor, Mrs. Robert Hodges from Rocky Mount listened faithfully, corresponded, and donated to the broadcast.
Mrs. Hodges and her husband were both saved at the funeral of their son which Pastor Hardy conducted at their request. Pastor Hardy held revival meetings that went from July 23 to August 19, 1943, in the Franklin County tobacco warehouse. These revival meetings led to the Fundamental Baptist Church being organized on August 23, 1943, by Brother W. E. Hardy, his wife, and twenty-three charter members.
The first meetings were held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Berkley Wray. In October of 1943, the members agreed to buy land on High Street but later this site was sold and land was purchased on Woodlawn Drive. The Church building was completed in June 1944 with a seating capacity of approximately 150.
In October 1965 a new parsonage was dedicated and in March of 1968, a new Sanctuary was completed with a seating compacity of 338 and an additional 100 seats in the balcony.
